Today, I spent most of the day working on my almost-two-year-old's birthday cake. You see, he was born on Christmas Eve, so on top of getting ready for Christmas with family, we are also getting ready for a 2-Year old's birthday party with relatives (who else is going to come to a birthday party on Christmas Eve? Many thanks to my relatives by the way!!) for tomorrow.
So, what I thought would take an hour or so ended up taking me all day. Please keep in mind that I am NOT an experienced cake decorator, and all I had to help me was a picture I found online, and the book Confetti Cakes for Kids, which will have a review VERY soon!
The cake is all Betty Crocker - but the frosting - it's all from Confetti Cakes . . . a wonderful vanilla buttercream recipe, that was very interesting for a novice like me, but worked wonderfully!
I'll be adding a few flags and a banner that says Happy Second Birthday Logan!! or some such thing in the morning as I am now simply too tired to finish tonight.
As for the birthday itself??? Sledding in the snow in the morning (assuming it doesn't rain and create too much ice overnight), followed by family and food in the afternoon, then presents and cake. Don't know which I'm looking forward to the most. I know he LOVES sledding, but I think he'll enjoy tearing the paper off the presents and stuffing the cake in his face too!

Great job on the cake! Even with Confetti Cakes, my cake decorating is seriously lacking. Yours looks wonderful. Sounds like a great day!
I know Logan will love his cake. The cakes in Confetti Cakes for Kids are unbelievable - if I made one of those, I'd dare anyone to eat it! Happy Birthday, Logan, and Merry Christmas!
What a wonderful cake!
I'm always jealous of people that can make cakes like that. Gorgeous. Have a great holiday!
Wow, the cake looks great! I almost don't believe it's homemade, it looks too good! And Happy Birthday to your son! My dad's birthday is on Christmas day, and I remember he used to feel sad when he was young, that no one believed him when he said it was his birthday party and not just a Christmas party, and he never felt special because everyone was getting presents too. =( I'm glad you don't let your son feel that way, he must feel really special with a cake like that!
Thanks for visiting my blog! Merry Christmas!
A very happy birthday to your son! Our Grandboy will be 2 on the 30th, so we know what a magical age it is and what life is like with a two-year-old. Enjoy your holidays and stay warm!

I think it looks fabulous!! Happy Birthday to your boy and Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Oh my! I just saw the absolutely cute pictures of your baby with Santa - I LOVE IT!!!!!
The cake looks great Wendi! Hope the birtday party was lots of fun and the holidays as well! Thanks for the pics!
Your cake is adorable! Great job. One of my sons has a birthday within a couple days of Christmas, too. It makes the holidays kind of hectic, doesn't it? But how nice that you were able to have a family celebration complete with special dessert :)
What a cool cake! Great Job! :)
Happy birthday, Logan! What a gorgeous cake! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas.
