Review: Me Myself & I Am by Matthew Peters and Elisa Stanford (WildCard Tour)

Title: Me Myself & I Am
Author: Created by Matthew Peters in partnership with Elisa Stanford
Pages: 96
Publisher: Multnomah Books (October 7, 2008)
Genre: Christian Living / Spiritual Growth
Edition: Standard - Many thanks to the publisher for sending me this book as part of the FIRST WildCard Tours!!

Perfect for : Personal growth/thoughtfulness

In a nutshell: I found reading this journal/workbook to be a very thought-provoking experience.
The authors have presented many thoughts or questions to help the reader take a closer look at themselves and their spirituality/faith. There are some very fun pages . . . . The Friend Most Likely . . . To think the Hokey Pokey IS what it's all about: ______ (pg. 56) . . . . . and some very serious thoughts . . . Oops! One thing I do that I only recently realized is not right: ______ (pg. 64). I took this opportunity to learn about myself, and let me say that at times I had a hard time being honest with myself. In all, I really love this book. It has easily (it was really easy to work in this book!) helped me to smile, and has shown me some areas that I'd like to improve in my life. I recommend this book for personal growth, and a good gift for friends who are spiritual or are exploring their spiritual beliefs. Please take a moment and scroll through the first chapter below - it will give you a good idea of how the book is written.

From Multnomah (publisher):
It’s All About You.

Open this book to any page and take a new look at you, where you’ve been on your spiritual journey, and where you’re going. Out loud, in private, in order, or backwards all the way, this book of questions will have you laughing, praying, thinking, and maybe asking a question or two yourself. It’s a creative and revealing way to get to know God–and you–better than ever. So go ahead. Grab a pen. And get ready to get real.

Excerpt: (See below to read the first chapter, which was provided as part of the FIRST WildCard Tour earlier this month)

My Review:
In this instance, I'm going to keep it short and simple. The book is very good, well, it is as good as you allow it to be. If you agree to be honest with yourself, you will get a lot out of this book, both in quality memories, and areas for improvement.

Characters: You! This book is really about looking at yourself spiritually.

Story-Line: N/A

Readability: Very easy to read. Also very easy to move around without worries. If you want to simply open it up to a random page, go ahead! Is there a particular section you want to start with - go for it!

Overall: A wonderful book/journal that helps the reader take a closer look at themselves spiritually. I was able to feel good about some areas of my spirituality and see some areas I need to work on. :) This was a very enjoyable book! Give it a try - you might be amazed at what you learn about yourself.

It is time to play a Wild Card! Every now and then, a book that I have chosen to read is going to pop up as a FIRST Wild Card Tour. Get dealt into the game! (Just click the button!) Wild Card Tours feature an author and his/her book's FIRST chapter!

You never know when I might play a wild card on you!

AND NOW...THE FIRST CHAPTER:

You are holding in your hands a unique question and answer book that helps you tell the very personal story of you and God. We take the title from the well-known passage in the Old Testament in which God tells Moses God’s name: “God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO
I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” (Exodus 3:14).

You can use Me, Myself, & I AM in many ways: as a map to explore your faith, as a lens to focus on your relationship with Jesus, as a fun way to let others get to know you, or as a starting point for important conversations with family and friends. What you record becomes a spiritual time capsule you can revisit months or years from now to see how you used to think and feel, who you used to be.

Be sure to answer questions not with what you feel you should say but with what you really (like it or not) think. After all, you’re writing down the story of your life. You’ll find that some questions are fun, some are serious, and some that appear to be light turn out to be the most thought provoking of all. Answer as many questions as you can, but if a question doesn’t feel right for you, skip it and move on. If you run out of space for an answer, you might want to use the blank pages in the back of the book to continue writing.

So relax, take your time, and enjoy the experience of getting to know yourself and God in new and deeper ways.

Hi Wendy. Enjoyed your review of this book. I also like how you thanked the publisher who sent the book for you to review! I wanted to tell you that I had thought about what you've done and that is, posting what other blogs are doing, like giving away books, etc. I don't know that I'll get to it today, but I hope to get to it soon! I'll have to send you an email.

In Christ,
Mimi B
